Can't think of any witty titles... damn I'm losing my touch..
Like many other ppl out there, I have decided to move my blogging space from this disfunctional place to:
http://spaces.msn.com/members/hermesljm/
Reasons for this are stated there so go.. I won't update this place anymore cos its such a pain to do so. So if anyone was holding their breath for the paris update.. I REALLY suggest u let it go now... there... that wasn't too hard now was it?
And for those that are wondering, I won't be deleting this blog till about.. 1-2 yrs later so anyone who takes that long to eventually remember that I have a blog and come this way will not be lost. So... see you at the new place!!

Alright.. moving along.. part two... BRUSSELS!!!
Now... once upon a time.. 5 ppl (cant really say clueless cos I already what we were gonna see there) went to Brusells, Belgium during easter break.. Now.. brussels is a place famous for:

Belgian chocolates...
(sorry for the blur pic .. I didn't take this one and it is the only pic I have of belgian chocs)

Mussels!!!
WOO HOO!!! My absolute fav of that place.. it's called Moules (pronouced mooolls) and its normally served with frites (fries) .. The one in the pic above was shared by the 5 of us on our first night there.. wasnt cheap.. came up to about RM100 just for ONE pot above. But it was worth it.. Or so I like to think.

Belgian waffles!!! ~drooollll~
Normally served with icing sugar, strawberries/bananas, ice cream, choc, jam,... u pick, u choose, u pay.. simple as that.. yummy yum yum...
(If sam is reading this..wipe your drool girl... bingy.. u too)

Belgian frites. What's so special you ask? Well.. the fries are just normal fries.. its the SAUCE that you choose to dip them in that makes it special.. they were such a joy to eat in the cold cold wind.
Actually, this pic was taken in amsterdam... they have branches there... duh.. ironic huh?

The Manneken Pis... Yes... its exactly what you think it means.. Literally translated to the Pissing Boy statue... The statue is located at a corner of a street and EVERY LIVING BREATHING TOURIST going to brussels would have at least gone to this street corner and taken at least ONE picture of it.. sigh... Honestly I think it was more interesting to see the HK and mainland china tourist rushing to see the bloody statue.. But the thing is, the street the statue is on is packed full with specialty chocolate shops... everywhere you turn is wuvly wuvly dark light milky belgian chocs... aahh.. heaven...
Things we saw in the city:

The Grand Place (Pronounced as Gran {the 'a' pronounced as 'aa'} Plaz) It's basically a HUGE square surounded by huge old european buildings. The place was absolutely beautifull at night when all the buildings were lit up. Later on in spring, the local city council will set up loads of flowers forming a sort of flower carpet covering the whole square and there'll be fireworks of course.

The right of the the pic before this.

A nice big church in the middle of the city.. very huge too.. god knows what's it called. But actually you could ask sean it's name instead as he went there for an easter friday service at night.
Funny things we saw:

No, they aren't made like that there. Someone actually took the trouble to climb up and 'modify' the thing....We stood there for so long just to wait for the bloody thing to turn green then red to take these two pics.
So after seeing what the city itself had to offer, we went to one of the local HUGE parks to have a look around.. and boy did we enjoy ourselves....

But the BEST was:

If you can't figure, the black mass is actually a black fluffy adorable 5 month old terrier which we met in the park. He and his other TWO brothers which look EXACTLY ALIKE went beserk with trying to get our attention when we wanted to pet them.... awww... we spent so much time with them..
Brugge:
On our last day in belgium we took a train to the city of Brugge which was rather near brussels on the recomendation of sean's parents...
It was a small nice town which had loads of natural beauty left... along with the overpopulation of tourists too of course. There was even a church there (I think it was called 'Our Holy Lady') which had an original madonna and the child marble statue carving by Michealangelo. It is the ONLY existing work of his that is outside Italy I think..

The little girl in the picture was so cute. Her mum/aunt told her to walk into the circle with all the daffodils to pose there and at the last moment she shrugged .... Wen Choo sneaked a shot of her. (For those who guessed it, the girl is Japanese and believe or not her name is Sora.. lol... For the Japanesely challenged, Sora means sky in Jap)

And yes... they had canal cruises there... no we didn't go on it.. short on time and money.. sigh...
So overall we had a fine time in Brugge.. right up till my camera was stolen.. and that really ruined my whole trip.... -_-..... All 300 over pictures and digital memories gone .. lost into the hands of a low life who will get struck by lightning or have diarrhea or even CONSTIPATION for a whole MONTH!! sigh...
The next day we left for Paris via bus...
Now Paris will be a pain to talk about cos we saw and did so many things there.. will have to give this some proper thought before writting.. this might take a while..
Untill then....

Yes... once and for all I decided to update.. sigh.. those ppl who are cheering and popping their champagne bottles now you better pour some for en ruey..he has been bugging me for AGES..anyway.. the next few blogs will be in 3 installments (Provided I even have the drive to make it to the third) and will be FULL OF PICTURES!!! So for those who cant afford to view them... go to the library or go leech of someone else's internet. Allright.. as the tittle suggests it will be about the 1st stop of my easter trip in march... amsterdam!! To lazy to tell u the whole story (like Fara's EXTENSIVE novel) so I will just highlight some stuff and hopefully will make you laugh in the process..
Allrighty then... Amsterdam...
The dorm we stayed in:

Called "Bob's youth hostel"... nice place.. clean beds.. big toilets and the reception area stank of weed... bleh.. choking to death when we were checking in and out..
In town:

This was our group... well...short of a guy( was taking the pic.. duh)
L-R: Wen Choo, Sean, En Ruey and Me!!
Typical Dutch Deco:

No they're not real and no they weren't in bloom.. we went a bit too early in spring.
Canal cruises:

Very popular and VERY BORING... but .. its an experience u must go thru as its one of the must do's in amsterdam as its their canals(one of the things anyway) they're famous for.
Another thing ams. is famous for thou is their legal prostitution and drugs.. the drugs I can prove to u in pics.. but the prostitution?? sorry guys.. no camera's allowed there.. was quite a sight thou the red light district.. we walked down that road 2 times during our entire stay (once at night and another during the day) and it was a different sight and atmosphere each time.. naturally at night the "goods" on display were much better looking. There (if u dun know) the girls will stand in individual rooms with HUGE display windows.. and u can just imagine what they were wearing and doing... what you ask were they doing? Why,... fluffing their hair of course,.... among.. OTHER things...
Floating flower market:

Another must do... VERY nice place...
With EVEN NICER things for sale:

And NO.. we didn't buy any..
Fav thing we saw there:

No there weren't any cows.. this was a postcard.. love it thou..
(GKS!!: this WOULD be my postcard to you if only it wasn't worth RM6)
Typical countryside:

At the shoemakers place:

As you can see.. the 'shoes' are actually the dutch clogs..LOVE the machines they used.. so simple yet so functional!!

Kay teck on the right... our third guy..
And.... our last night...:

SLEEEEPPPPP!!!!... .. actually we just stayed in the dorm and talked all night cos we had seen everything there was to be seen... sigh...
Untill the next post... BRUSSELS!!!

Feel a bit compelled to write a blog all a sudden after reading vonnie's blog bout her quirky lecturers (thou I must mention that I don't get half the stuff she's talking bout nowadays... I mean like last time she'd talk like one of us and nowadays bloody law terms keep popping up here and there and she convieniently forgets to explain to us the significance of it... hint hint girl... u MUST understand that the rest of the world doesn't do law... would u like me to fill my whole blog bout engineering terms like maple, moments and &*(^$$%#??? {can't think of anymore remotely complicated words}..)
So I shall write a blog on how I fill my days with...
I fill my days with....
for 5 days a week, 22-24 hours a week, I bury myself in boring as hell lectures (then again I think ALL lectures are boring) and interesting practicals... interesting cos in my first one I slipped on the stairs and fell to the horror of my lecturer... lol... butt was sore for a few days but was gratefully thankfull to god for the existence of the big strong guy in front of me and the sturdy railings...But I've already found my passion in engineering (which actually honestly I have been doubting when I applied for this course) which is in design... I ABSOLUTELY love it... its one thing that can frustrate me to the ends of the earth and yet keeps me glued to the comp for ages...lol.. my classes start as early as 9am and end as late as 6pm... at which I have to sprint back to my dorm to catch dinner...
But then again, ever since I discovered a shortcut to the engineering faculty, it only takes me bout 5 mins to get there...
The labs here are really something to look at.. they have ALL the technical stuff u can ever imagine that u would need in engineering and they're all in pretty good condition. And most are the stuff are like DAMN expensive.. for example, in my first basic measurements class we were sitting around this really black and smooth table (which i suspect was made of granite) and we were admiring it when the supervisor suddenly grabbed a metal component(which we were suppossed to measure that day) out of a guys hands which he was about to put on the table saying that we can't do that.. we had to slide the component on from the edges of the table cos apparently the table was manufactured to be PERFECTLY level and cost bout 10,000 pounds each!!!! and there were about 4 of those in the same room... at that point everyone immeadietly pushed themselves away from the table and was VERY afraid to touch it after that. Needless to say, the other equipment we were using that day was also very expensive.. sigh... really different standard here..
I fill my nights with...
visting my various friends' rooms and houses and so on so forth.. we call it room hopping... its a really interesting activity really especially since we finish our dinner bout 7pm and don't feel like going back to our tiny rooms..dinner is kwai lou food of course and sometimes they serve curry which I don't realise I'm eating cos it DOESN'T TASTE LIKE BLOODY CURRY AT ALL!!!!!! ocassionally we (as in me and my other international friends) will try to break the monotony (thou the food here is ok lah... not to say bad..cos they actually serve us salmon here!!!) and cook chinese food with our meager utensils and ingredients...the stuff here is so bloody expensive like for eg: 1kg of kai lan costs £5!! and 4 garlic costs 40-60p...(pls do the math and times 7) and the vege doesn't even look as great as what we get at home and the garlic is small too... sigh... so we always cook without garlic which makes the food slightly substandard... sigh...but nevertherless... its good enough cos we have tons of fun trying to cook decent food...
And occasionally being the cheapskates we are, we'll sccrounge around looking for other ppls dvd's to watch a movie on the laptop in someone else's room... it's good fun I assure u..
I fill my weekends with...
Travelling around uk... I'm serious... ever since I got here, every weekend I've been somewhere.. it quite surprising actually since b4 I came I was claiming that I will only travel next year and bout how expensive it'll be... but surprisingly, if u know the tricks of the trade u can do it pretty cheaply. like for eg, I can go to london via coach for only £1... interesting eh? so far I have seen london, leeds (duh), sheffield, lake district, bath... and coming soon... amsterdam(hopefully.. still in the pipeline)...
My lecturers are...
rather young...Really... I always thought that my prof will be really old ppl with snow white hair and eccentric and all.. but they're all pretty young. and ALL my lecturers are minimum a dr. interesting isn't it?... but they're pretty nice and cool ppl. my personal tutor is Dr. Brian Henson (I keep calling him sir and he keeps asking me to call him brian) and he's rather young PLUS he has green eyes!!lol... voooonnnn!! But the weirdest thing is (man is this world small) that my tutor is married to my hall's (I'm staying in the Charles Morris Halls where all the students are taken care of 2 wardens and 5 subwardens) warden (the female one of course) and the worst part is that since I'm living on the 7th floor, the warden lives right above me and my tutor obviously lives there too.. lol... now must make sure to not make too much noise at night... kekekekekek...
My mechanics of fluids lecturer is this really young fella (I suspect he's about late 20's or VERY early 30's) who's not too bad looking. and he's really fun probably cos he's so young and knows how to interact with us.
However, my mechanics of solids lecturer is this asian fella who till now I can't tell if he's korean or chinese. But apparently he's rather brilliant thou his lectures leave much to be desired... thou boring as hell, I recently found out that he's actually quite cool. Cos recently one of my coursemates visited his module webpage(all of our modules(ie:subjects) here can be found online) and apparently he started this competition for all his students to build a paper aeroplane in his class and trow it in his direction. The aeroplane that comes closest to him without hitting him (of course!) will win. and we were discussing that we should get the WHOLE class to throw it all at once and surely someone will get it right.. lol..
My friends here are...
ALL seniors... hardly any ppl my age. ok.. got lar... but I'm the ONLY malaysian in the whole (Don't care which kind) engineering department cos the reast of the population went to inti... bloody hell... but because of that I'm mixing with other ppl from various parts of the world. Mauritians, Chinese, Taiwanese, Hongky's, Japanese, French, Brits(duh!!), Thais and of course, singaporeans! So MOST of the ppl I mix with are older than me and the BEST part is that some of them cook REALLY well...lol..heheh... tumpang makan... and the EVEN BETTER part is that one of my senior's girlfriend is ALSO in bath so now whenever I go down to visit en ruey and my senior and his gf is so understanding that they are VERY WILLING to help me plan incredible stuff for my 'trips' down..lol.. en ruey would know best..
Thats all I can think of to say for now... but I'm sure some of u will want to ask me... 'so... how are the brits like?' Let me put it this way, my senior taught me this when I first arrived.
The top 4 british questions:
(i) Where did you go last night?
(ii) Are you going out tonight?
(iii) Where are you going tonight?
(iv) Do you know where you can get some free beer?
I rest my case... untill my next blogging mood!!

{edit}... pls scroll down to look at the new parts I added...
yes yes yes... I know some of u out there are saying : 'oh now she finally updates lah!!!'....all I can say is.... ehehehe.... oops???..
But yeah... like en ruey said I was facing some probs with my internet connection (still am but at a lesser degree now) so I don't have the luxury of typing my blogs in my room at my own sweet time..
But en ruey was just advising me that I should update lest keep my ardent 'fans' waiting any longer...sigh... yes, that's true... but I've already said from the begining that I will only blog when I feel like it and... well.. oklah.. I feel like it a bit now...
I'm actually at the Edward Boyle library at my uni now using their wireless network connection to hook up to the net. So yes everyday I have to lug my laptop to the library if I wanna connect to the net (cos I don't like using the uni's comps)
anyway... I've always been a staunch believer that a picture paints a thousand words... well... I can't agree more...so to let u guys have a peek at the things I've been up to for the past 2 -3 weeks since I've left m'sia... here u go...:
My first stop in the uk was London... : http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/london%20trip/
After that I moved up north via train for 2 and 1/2 hours to Leeds.. the place where I shall be spending my next 4 years of my schooling life at: http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/Leeds%20Uni%20and%20town/
I then was involved in certain self improvement activities.. like... cooking:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/masak%20masak/
The result of our cooking as used for the Singaporean society dinner (I'll explain one day) in conjunction of Mid Autumn Festival: http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/SINGSOC%20dinner/
I have also (true to my words) travelled to some parts of the UK. Like...:
Sheffield: http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/sheffield%20trip/ and the ...
Lake District (just yesterday 3/10/04) which is just north of Leeds... it took us bout 2- 2 and 1/2 hrs to get there by bus... I will post up pics of it soon when I have more time... untill then u guys will have more than enough pictures to fill ur time with... lol... enjoy... untill next time..
[edit]:hahahah... finally got it done: http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/lake%20district/
Note: some of the pics are a bit jumbled up so...well...guna otak sikit k!!
p.s.- I will eventually get around to extracting some specific pics from my albums and write a sort explanation on them. So just bear with some meaningless pics untill then.
p.s.: BING BING!!! go here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ijmn_lee/clouds/
tell me which of the pics u think is good (I wanna post in dev art).. u guys can go there too if u want... but its just pics of clouds...

HI everyone! This is En Ruey here, helping Jas Min post a blog, since she's facing internet problems in leeds. The blog below are excerpts from emails which she sent to me (edited of course!) -_~ Enjoy!
11th: 1st Day in UK
Hi managed to sqeeze in some internet time at the hotel. It's 7.55am now... sigh.. suffering from very bad jetlag... Was walking around town with bloodshot eyes yesterday while struggling to stay awake. Everything is fine and dandy... Weather is like Genting except when the wind blows... brr.... Was so tempted to sleep in shorts and a shirt cos the room was so warm (WINDOW CAN'T OPEN AND NO AIRCON.!!!).
Running out of time now, only 2.20 mins to go... (explained tommorrow)
12th: 2nd Day in UK
I'm running on this really expensive internet that has a time limit!! Aaahhh!!! 18 mins to go!!! Will be leaving for leeds tom and everything seems pretty set and fine. Kekeke... I'm pretty good with the trains now!
Bout the weather, I had my first taste of english weather today... Freaking rained on us... Sigh... I felt like my face and ears were gonna freeze and fall off everytime the wind blew... (note to self: grow long hair!!!) Pretty ironic that I should be complaining bout the cold when I'm sitting here at the com with the window wide open behind me in shorts and a short sleeved shirt!!! Gtg now... 12 mins to go...
13th: Leeds
Am finally in leeds now... (ugh... hate train rides.. I get train sick... bleh...) Sigh... Moved into my TEMPORARY room today cos they accidentally gave my permanent one to someone else in the confusion so will hopefully be moving into my permanent one by the end of this week.
Me thinks the rooms are (get this!!) en-suite!!!!! ok... not FULLY en-suite... I have to share it with the person next door (whoever that is...)... There's a catch to it... or actually... lack of on the doors (die...)...
Found out that the rooms here have no telephone port so... No internet connection... Yet... To pull a line to my room will cost bout £80 and that's not even added in the internet cost yet... But me and my dad will sort things out (crossed fingers).
Leeds is bout 4-5 degrees colder than london and the winds here seem to blow with a vengence... It's so windy here that it's difficult to talk when ur facing the wind (let alone breathe!!!!)... It's drizzling every now and then but things seem pretty fine here... The uni is VERY near the town so everything is very convenient. The spiderman room isn't that bad... Aih... Things are very different here compared to london and it'll take me awhile to get used to it.
Other things bout me nowadays:
1) My eyes are dry and bloodshot everyday due to the winds blowing
2) I'm eating 2x the ammount as compared to home... (die... expect to
see a plumper me.)
3) I REALLY cannot tahan the cold but am slowly getting used to it
4) Am on the FREE internet access at my parents' hotel now, that's why my
e-mails are significantly longer... kekeke...
5) Have to go now cos my dad is waiting for his turn on the com...
15th: Leeds
The campus is HUGE!!! My parents and I have gotten lost a grand total of four times when trying to make our way from the banks and my hostel... Sad man sad... 3 ppl... All adults... And still can get lost... Aih aih aih...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my REAL nextdoor neighbour at my dorm will NOT be a guy... Especially one of those ham sap (lol) ones that suka suka open the door whenever he hears someone in the toilet. Unpacking will be hell cos I have 2 BIG bags and one small bag to unpack... But the bright side is that the closet is quite big (bigger than I expected) and the room has many shelves all over the place (again... More than I expected...) The bed... well... I think it's like my old one at home so I'll adjust pretty soon...
I forgot to mention something bout the strength of the winds yesterday... lol... Don't tease me ok!!... Yesterday while walking to the local department store... The wind was blowing so hard I started to walk serong, serong... It was so sad man... Am I that puny??... I had to struggle to walk straight towards the doors.
Few things more to say:
1) I HAVE NO eye mo.................. I'm gonna be a red eye monster for quite a while I think...
2) My lips so far have not started peeling cos I'm using a lip balm everyday...
3) Mum and dad will be leaving for Amsterdam on Thurs evening... After that... I'm all alone n this cruel cruel weather... *sob sob*
4) Found a pretty good deal for the internet connection last night on the net but the prob is that me dad wants me to take the one with the 1GB limit of data transfer a month!!
5) Gtg now... Parents are calling.
16th: Leeds
U know what... Today is the 16th... The day my M'sian seniors are coming back... The day my M'sian seniors are supossed to take me around Leeds... The day I am supossed to call my M'sian seniors to come find me... The 2nd day I found out that I left their cards with their UK no. on them at home....... I could scream I tell u... And now my home comp. is apparently infected by a virus so I don't think my bro can scan them and send it to me... I'm so stuck right now... Aih aih aih... But might try calling home later to see if I can bug him to find the cards... Sigh...
Will be trying for the 3rd time in 3 days to apply for my bank account in Leeds... Stupid terorists... Causing so much problems for the rest of the world...
Gtg now... Need to clean up the hotel room (my stuff are all over the place!!) and get to the uni...

Just had a chat with von yesterday and we were talking bout one of the more interesting topics to ever talk about.......... guys.... ok yes, we were bored but hey, I'm sure all girls out there are equally interested when it comes to this topic (unless ur sworn for celibacy for ur entire life or ur lesbian). *ahem* after ommiting the 'personal' parts of the conversation (which b4 I cont I must let u know it was the typical how do u know if a guy likes you when he doesn't tell you and vice versa) I have managed to hear enuf to draw up a table/list/facts/like duh u didn't know? anyway, here goes:
Guys P.O.V.(like how do they know larr):
-quote: 'aiyah... dunno lar.. girls quite difficult wan. I think it's easier for girls to read us than the other way round cos I think most girls seem to b able to c double hidden meanings in things (huh?). But generally its like they treat u nicer I think (girls... this is why guys are such block heads in things like this... aih...)
Girls P.O.V.(now this one has more substance):
It'll be quite straightforward cos althou guys think they're very good at hiding things like this, well, (sorry guys) but they're not. Not in the least bit. The guys claim its just women's intuition but in my 'humble' opininon, it's more like they're being so obviously obvious that it'll be painfully obvious to anyone (cept for guys ^_~) that sees his interactions with that particular girl... sadnya...anyway... I'm getting sidetracked... points to look out for:
- He treats you nicer (just compare it with the way he treats other girls)
- Compliments you whenever he can in anyway possible.
- Does things for you without much pushing (I can't remember if this is my own point or theirs... oh well)
- Always looking out for you.
I think this just about covers it.... but there was more... what about the eternal question we put to guys,... what kind of girls appeal to guys. like does the girl have to be sexy and all?
- Quote- 'the girl doesn't have to be very sexy wan. actually ah.. sexy is nice to look at onli. I mean like short skirts are great and all but I'd prefer it if my gf onli wore short skits and all that for my personal viewing only...(hmm... sounds familiar girls?? sounds like what kenny and beno said last time huh? thou this personal viewing thing is highly controversial...) It's more imp to me if she's those kind of feminine types. (at this point the girls bombarded him with: how do you define feminine?) aiyah... its very hard to say wan... it's more like the way she sits ah, talks, and even walks that just will scream feminity (at this point I was joking with von bout how a VERY CERTAIN fren of mine is so desirable around guys) BUT if the girl too feminine also not good cos... too clingy not good larr... where I want to go, she want to go also... susah u know. at least she must be independant and ocassionaly NEED me to help her.' (this is so masochist..)
So, I'm preety sure what these guys have said probably represent the majority of the male population. I hope not all thou cos if not I'll be an andartu for life!!! 0.0... lol..so guys...and BEAUTIFULL gals (^_~) what do YOU think?
